Özet

Bu çalışmanın amacı, portfolyo hazırlamanın, yansıtmabecerileri, teknoloji becerisi ve eğitimde teknolojiyikullanma tutumu açısından öğretmen adaylarının meslekigelişimindeki rolünü incelemektir. Bu çalışmaya, BoğaziçiÜniversitesi, Eğitim Fakültesi, Yabancı Diller EğitimiAnabilim Dalı'ndan beş son sınıf öğrencisi katılmıştır.Araştırmanın verileri, (a) anketler, (b) görüşmeler,geleneksel portfolyo ve elektronik portfolyo ürünlerikullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Bu çalışma, 2002-2003Akademik yılında yapılmıştır. Portfolyo hazırlanmasınınöğretmen adaylarının mesleki gelişimindeki etkisiniaraştıran birinci temel araştırma sorusunu cevaplamak içinöğretmen adaylarının düşünceleri ve portfolyo ürünleriincelenmiştir. Katılımcıların portfolyolar hakkındakidüşüncelerini bulmak için, yapılan görüşmelerin tutanaklarıMiles ve Huberman (1994) modeline göre incelenmiştir.Katılımcıların davranış nedenlerini anlattıkları11yansıtmalarının ne tür yansıtmalar olduğu ise portfolyoürünlerinin Hatton ve Smith'in (1995) geliştirdiği yansıtmakriterlerine göre incelenmesi ile bulunmuştur. Portfolyohazırlanmasının öğretmen adaylarının teknoloji becerisineve eğitimde teknolojiyi kullanma tutumuna olan etkisiniaraştıran ikinci temel araştırma sorusunu cevaplamak içinise teknoloji beceri ölçeği ve teknoloji tutum ölçeği test-tekrar test şeklinde uygulanmış ve sonuçlar istatistikselolarak incelenmiştir.Öğretmen adayları, portfolyo hazırlamanın, hemyansıtma becerilerini geliştirmelerine hem de teori vepratik arasında bir bağ kurmalarına yardım ettiğinibelirtmişlerdir. Ayrıca, öğretmen adayları portfolyolarınıhazırlarken kendi öğretim uygulamalarını geliştirecekfarklı yolları keşfettiklerini de söylemişlerdir.Genel olarak araştırmanın sonuçları bize, portfolyohazırlama sürecinin, zaman yetersizliği gibi negatif, amayardımlaşma ve işbirliği gibi pozitif yönleri ile öğretmenadaylarının mesleki gelişimlerini hem yansıtma becerilerihem de özgüvenlerini geliştirme açısından hızlandıran biryol olduğunu göstermiştir.Buna ek olarak, özellikle elektronik portfolyoyuhazırlama sürecinde öğretmen adaylarının hem teknoloji12becerileri hem de teknoloji kullanımına pozitifyaklaşımları artış göstermiş, bu da onların meslekigelişimlerinde önemli bir rol oynamıştır.13

The Role of Portfolios in EFL Student Teachers?Professional Development: A Case StudyBy Zeynep Banu KoçoğluThe purpose of this study was to analyze the impact ofportfolio preparation on the professional development ofstudent teachers in terms of reflective thinking,technology competency and attitude towards technology usein education.Five senior students from Boğaziçi University, Facultyof Education, Department of Foreign Language Educationparticipated in this study. Multiple sets of data for thisstudy came from: (a) questionnaires, (b) interviews, and(c) artifacts from pen/paper and electronic portfolios.Collection of data was completed in two consecutiveTo answer the 1stsemesters, Fall 2002 and Spring 2003.main research question that focused on the impact ofpreparing portfolios on EFL student teachers? professionaldevelopment, the perspectives of student teachers and theirportfolio artifacts were analyzed. In order to find theparticipants? perspectives about portfolios, a contentanalysis of the interview transcripts was conducted by8using Miles and Huberman?s model (1994) to identifyconceptual themes. In order to investigate reflectivethinking, portfolio artifacts were analyzed by using Hattonand Smith?s (1995) framework of types of reflection todetermine how the participants used different types ofreflection to describe and justify their behaviors. Toanswer the 2nd main research question, that is whether useof technology in preparing portfolios affects studentteachers? professional development, both pre- and post-technology competency level and technology attitudequestionnaires were tabulated and analyzed statistically.The student teachers stated that the portfolio allowedthem to be reflective and to make connections betweentheory and practice, which helped them think about theirstrengths and weaknesses in becoming a teacher. Thestudent teachers also felt that during the preparation ofportfolios they were able to identify ways to improve theirteaching practice. Based on the findings, the datasupported Hatton and Smith?s view of teachers? reflectivethinking as a hierarchical developmental sequence.The results, overall, showed that the process ofpreparing a portfolio provided a useful approach toenhancing professional development, with a few negative9comments regarding the time, positive comments regardingthe support and collaboration from the peers, itscontribution to their professional development in terms ofreflective thinking and self-confidence.In addition, preparing electronic portfolios by usingdifferent technological applications also enhancedprofessional development of student teachers in terms offacilitating technological competence and increasingattitudes positively toward computer use in education.10
