ABSTRACT, The aim of this thesis is to discuss how to teach literature, especially drama exemplified with Mourning Becomes Electra by Eugene Gladstone O'Neill, in advanced EFL classes in the light of macro-stylistic categories. The first chapter of the thesis contains the aim, the background, and the scope of the study. The second chapter gives the concepts of literary history, literary theory, literary criticism, and literariness while attempting to find an answer to the question;“Can literature be studied?”. The third chapter reviews the aim of teaching literature as well as the macro stylistic categories in the light of concept of classicism. As the aim of this thesis is to discuss how to teach literature through drama, the fourth chapter deals with the macro-stylistic analysis of Mourning Becomes Electra by Eugene O'Neill. In conclusion a condensed summary of the whole thesis is given.
