Özet
ÖZET Bu çalışma, Gazi Üniversitesi, Mühendislik-Mimarlık Fakültesi, ingilizce hazırlık sınıflarında kullanılan, B. Abbs ve I. Freebairn tarafından yazılmış 'Opening Strategies' kitabının kullanımım takviye etmek amacıyla hazırlanan resimleri kapsamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın birinci bölümünde problem tarıımlanmakta, çalışmanın temeli, amacı ve faaliyet alam üzerinde durulmaktadır. İkinci bölüm, ingilizce öğretiminin tarihçesinin kısa bir özetiyle başlar ve dil öğretiminde resimlerin kullanılmağa başlanması ve gelişmesiyle ilgili bir araştırmayla devam eder. Üçüncü bölümde ise ihtiyaç analizi, dil öğretim sınıflarında öğrencinin ihtiyacı ve öğretmenin rolleri vurgulanarak tartışılır. Resimler yoluyla dört becerinin -dinleme, konuşma, okuma ve yazma- geliştirilmesi dördüncü bölümde sunulur. Beşinci bölümde ise resimlerin müfredat programına uyarlanması, örnek bir ders planı vererek vurgulanır. Çalışmanın son bölümün de sonuç bölümü ve resimlerin dil öğretim sınıflarında nasıl kullanılacağına dair öneriler yer almaktadır. III

ABSTRACT This study was carried out to present different pictorial materials in order to reinforce 'Opening Strategies' by Brain Abbs and Ingrid Freebairn, a course book which is used at Gazi University, Faculty of Engineering and Architecture for preparatory class students. The purpose of the first chapter is to explain the background of the study and problem, the purpose and the scope of the study about the subject. The second chapter begins with the review of literature and continues with the origins and development of pictures. In the following sections, the roles of pictures and sources of them are explained in detail. In chapter three, the needs analysis is discussed by emphasizing the analysis of learner's and the role of teacher in E.F.L. classrooms. The development of four skills by means of pictures is presented in chapter four and finally, the integration of pictures into the foreign language syllabus programme is emphasized by giving a sample lesson plan in chapter five and the final chapter presents the conclusion and suggestions for using pictures in E.F. L. classrooms. IV
