Özet
Amaç: Bu tezin amacı,1923-1980 yılları arasında Rize'de yapılan eğitim faaliyetlerini ve bu faaliyetlerin özelde Rize'nin Eğitim Tarihine genelde Türk eğitim tarihine katkılarını incelemektir. Yöntem: Bu çalışmada tarihsel araştırma yöntemi benimsenmiş, veri toplama tekniği olarak doküman incelemesi ve görüşme tekniği kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Yapılan bu çalışmada Osmanlı ve Cumhuriyet Dönemi eğitim sistemi açıklandıktan sonra tespit edilebilen Rize merkez okullarının tarihi gelişimi, öğretmen ve idarecileri, diploma alan öğrenci sayısı ortaya konulmuştur. Rize il geneli ilkokul, ortaokul ve lise kurumlarının okul, öğretmen, öğrenci sayıları tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca 1960-1980 yılları arasında Rize'de öğrenim görmüş ya da eğitim kurumlarında görev yapmış kişilerle yapılan görüşmelerden elde edilen bilgilerle Rize'nin eğitim durumu betimlenmiştir. Sonuç: Rize merkez okullarının Rize halkının eğitime ulaşmasında önemli katkısı olduğu belirlendi. 1923-1980 yılları arasında ilkokul, ortaokul, lise kurumlarının okul, öğretmen ve öğrenci sayılarının arttığı fakat bu artışın yıllara göre istikrarlı olmadığı anlaşıldı. 1960-1980 yıllarında Rize eğitim durumunu etkileyen etkenler arasında karşıt görüş öğrenci çatışmalarının dikkati çektiği tespit edildi.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is toanalyze education activities in Rize between 1923 and 1980 and particularly their contributions to the education history of Rize and Turkey generally. Method: In this study, the historical method of research was performed and the document review and interview method were used as data collecting tools. Findings: In this study, historical development, teachers and administrators, the number of diplomaed students of establishable schools in the city center of Rize were revealed after the Ottoman and Republican period education systems were explained. Numbers of teachers and students of primary, secondary, and high schools in the province of Rize were determined. Moreover, the education status of Rize was represented through the data obtained from the interviews being done with the people who studied and worked in the education institutions in Rize between 1923 and 1980. Result: It was concluded that schools in the city center of Rize had great contributions to the education of the people of Rize. It was also concluded that between 1923 and 1980, numbers of buildings, teachers, and students of primary, secondary and high schools increased but this increase was not steady through the years. It is remarkable that clashes of dissident students were among the factors affecting the education status of Rize.
