The current study investigates how the increased environmental concerns in the marketplace, especially to the consumers of the automotive industry have reflected on the openness for change in the business operations of Ford Company. Here, the openness for change in the operations of the Ford Company has been described by the increased focus on sustainability and increased transparency of operations. In the scope of the study, two surveys are applied, one measuring the environmental concern in the marketplace, which is applied to automobile customers, and one measuring the openness for change, which is applied to the Ford Company employees. The hypothesis test the relationship between the environmental concern and the sustainable marketing activities, CSR activities, transparency of business operations both within the company and towards the public, and the focus on the extrinsic and intrinsic properties of the end products. A positive relationship is expected between all the dependent variables and the independent variable, except the focus on the extrinsic properties of products. Here, a negative significant relationship is expected between the environmental concern and the focus on extrinsic properties, as it is predicted that sustainability is more associated with the intrinsic properties, rather than the extrinsic properties. According to the results, a positive relationship is found between the environmental concern and all the other dependent variables, including the focus on the extrinsic properties of the products. At that point, it might be commented that the increased environmental concerns that rise as an indirect result of globalization act as the drivers for change, which force the companies to make their operations more sustainable and transparent. The fact that both the focus on extrinsic and intrinsic properties of the products increase as the result of the increased environmental concerns show that Ford Company also reflects sustainability on the external properties, to make environmental sensitivity concept more visible to the customers. Such a finding also disapproves the common belief that the aim of making high profits conflicts with the aim of being sustainable.
