Özet
Covid-19 salgını, uygulanan sokağa çıkma yasakları ve virüsün yayılmasını önlemek için alınan halk sağlığı tedbirleri, diğer birçok sektörü etkilediği gibi konferans çevirmenliği mesleğini ve eğitimini de etkilemiştir. Bu tez ile, salgının konferans çevirmenliği mesleği üzerindeki etkisi Türkiye'de çalışan 47 konferans çevirmeninin katılımı ile gerçekleştirilen bir anket çalışması ve Türkiye'de geçmişte yapılmış olan anketlerin de incelenmesini içeren literatür çalışması yoluyla çevirmenler üzerindeki maddi etkisi, uzaktan çeviri modalitelerine geçiş üzerindeki etkisi ve çevirmenlerin bu değişimlere yönelik tavrı gibi çeşitli açılardan incelenmektedir. Bu çalışmada, ilgili literatüre atıfta bulunarak ankette çevirmenler tarafından ifade edilen zorluklar ve faydalar ile Türkiye'de uzaktan sözlü çevirinin mevcut durumu ile ilgili varılan sonuçlar sunulmaktadır. Salgının sözlü çeviri eğitimi üzerindeki etkisi de bu tez kapsamında mezun öğrencilere uygulanan bir anket ve eğitim verenlerle yapılan görüşmeler yoluyla incelenmiştir. Mezun öğrencilerin ve görüşme yapılan eğitmenlerin görüşleri sunulmuş ve sözlü çeviri derslerin çevrimiçi olarak verilmesine yönelik önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

The Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns and public health measures implemented to limit the spreading of the virus affected the conference interpreting profession as well as interpreting education and training as it did many other sectors. This thesis studies the impact of the pandemic on the profession from certain perspectives such as the financial impact on interpreters, the impact on the shift towards remote interpreting modalities as well as the interpreters' attitude towards such changes through a survey conducted with the participation of 47 conference interpreters working in Turkey and through review of the literature including previous surveys carried out in Turkey. This study presents both the challenges and benefits as expressed by the interpreters in the survey with references to the literature and offers its conclusions on the current state of remote interpreting in Turkey. The impact of the pandemic on interpreting education and training is also studied under this thesis through surveys among graduate students as well as interviews with instructors teaching interpreting courses. The views of graduate students and interviewed instructors are outlined, and suggestions are offered regarding online delivery of interpreting courses.
