Özet (Çeviri)

Museums are leading cultural institutes and have a responsibility to enable people to explore collections and make the museum accessible for everyone. However, disabled people have faced barriers to accessing cultural services for a long time. As leading cultural institutions, museums are expected to work towards being inclusive by adopting the social model of disability. Therefore, research has examined the current literature, government policies, and developments in the museum sector regarding the implementation of the social model of disability and social inclusion in museums. Social inclusion in museums has been examined with a focus on accessibility, which is understood in a broader sense to require combatting many barriers, such as physical, cultural, financial, etc. Regarding this, the Ulster Museum, which is the leading cultural institution and is the largest National Museum in Northern Ireland, is chosen for a single case study. The complex history of Northern Ireland regarding human and cultural rights played important part in the decisionmaking process of this research. The research aims to identify the museum's challenges and opportunities to become more inclusive for disabled people, and in addition, as result of the dissertation, possible barriers to access for disabled people are expected to be highlighted. Using qualitative research, the museum's policies, practices, and guidelines in relation to accessibility are examined, and a semi-structured interview is conducted with the interpretive approach. Results of the analyses show that barriers for disabled people and organisations' challenges are interconnected. The cultural barriers to access are the most explicit findings in this research. Further studies are needed to identify other factors concerning cultural barriers, which require disabled people's participation in research and can thus strengthen the suggestions for the organisations' practices.
