Özet

Bu araştırma özel üniversitelerde çalışmakta olan okutmanların araştırma yapmaya bakış açılarını analiz ederek, gözlemlenen zorlukların sebeplerini aydınlatıp; öğretim görevlilerine, yönetici birimlere ve öğretmen yetiştirme birimlerine bir öneri listesi sunmayı amaçlar.

The employment of research in universities can help in detecting deficiencies, pinpointing areas that need improvement, enhancing the learning and teaching process, and creating a continuous learning environment for teachers where they can excel in their skills. However, the voices of the instructors working at the preparatory schools of private universities usually remain underrepresented due to the rapid circulation of instructors employed at the institutions. This study aimed to comprehend the perceptions of instructors at preparatory schools in private Turkish universities regarding research and the challenges they face. This study seeks to investigate the inclinations, resistances, or biases of instructors at private university preparatory schools towards engaging in research within their classroom settings. By exploring the underlying reasons for perceived challenges, the research aims to offer insightful suggestions. Following an in-depth literature review, the study sets off to present a comprehensive set of recommendations tailored for instructors, administrative bodies, and the Continuous Professional Development unit. These recommendations aim to enhance the feasibility of research in higher education, ensuring a meaningful representation of instructors' perspectives in the academic literature. The study results revealed that there is a correlation between instructors' beliefs and their inclination to conduct research. However, they have certain expectations from the administrative parties. It was revealed that having a heavy workload, time constraints, lack of appreciation and low self-efficacy were among the perceived difficulties and the instructors had an expectation of being provided research training, motivation and some privileges for teacher-researchers.
