Özet
Fen bilimleri dersinin önemli ünitelerinden biri olan“Ses ve Özellikleri”ünitesi öğrencilerin çoğu zaman anlamakta zorlandıkları ve soyut ifadelerin fazla olduğu bir ünitedir. Bu gerekçeden yola çıkarak, Ortaokul Fen Bilimleri dersi 6.sınıf 'Ses ve Özellikleri' ünitesinde“Tahmin-Gözlem-Açıklama”(TGA) yöntemine dayalı olarak hazırlanan etkinliklerin, öğrencilerin akademik başarılarına etkisi araştırılmıştır. Çalışmanın örneklemini, 2024-2025 Eğitim-Öğretim yılının bahar döneminde, Şanlıurfa ili Akçakale ilçesine bağlı bir köy ortaokulu 6. sınıfında öğrenim gören toplam 24 öğrenci oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmanın yapıldığı köy ortaokulunda şube sayısı ve öğrenci sayısının sınırlı olması sebebiyle ön-test-son-test tek gruplu zayıf deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. TGA etkinliklerinin uygulanması, aynı zamanda dersin öğretmeni de olan araştırmacı tarafından gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada veri toplama aracı olarak“Ses ve Özellikleri Ünitesi Başarı Testi”kullanılmıştır. Araştırma toplam 6 hafta sürmüştür. Öğrencilerden elde edilen veriler SPSS 27 paket programıyla analiz edilmiştir. Öğrencilerin ön test- son test sonuçlarını karşılaştırmak için öncellikle verilerin normal dağılıp dağılmadığına bakılmıştır. Normallik testlerinden biri olan Shapiro-Wilk testi kullanılmıştır. One of the significant units in the Science course is the“Sound and Its Properties”unit, which students often find difficult to understand due to its abstract nature. Based on this rationale, the present study aimed to investigate the effect of activities designed according to the“Predict-Observe-Explain”(POE) strategy on students' academic achievement in the 6th-grade“Sound and Its Properties”unit of the middle school Science course. The study sample consisted of 24 students enrolled in the 6th grade of a village middle school located in the Akçakale district of Şanlıurfa province during the spring semester of the 2024–2025 academic year. Due to the limited number of classrooms and students in the village school, a weak experimental design with a single group pretest–posttest model was employed. The POE-based activities were implemented by the researcher, who was also the classroom teacher. As a data collection tool, a“Sound and Its Properties Unit Achievement Test”was used. The study lasted a total of six weeks. The data obtained from the students were analyzed using the SPSS 27 software package. To compare students' pretest and posttest scores, it was first examined whether the data followed a normal distribution. The Shapiro–Wilk test, one of the normality tests, was used. The analysis revealed that the pretest, posttest, and difference variables showed a normal distribution (p < 0.05). Since the data were normally distributed, the parametric paired samples t-test was applied. A frequency table was also created for the students' responses to the questions. As a result of the data analysis, it was found that the POE-based activities had a significant impact on students' academic achievement. These findings are supported by similar studies in the literature, and recommendations for future research were provided.
