This thesis is a study that examines the transformations in aesthetics since the late 20th century, particularly its developments in the post-critical period, within the framework of assemblage theory, focusing on the relationship between humans and their environment. The primary objective of this study is to rethink aesthetics as a process-oriented, relational, and multi-component field of interaction, moving away from its reduction to beauty, object-centeredness, or formal value judgments, and to interpret the relationships between humans and their environment. In today's world, where everything is in motion, complexity and dynamism are increasing, and relationships are becoming problematic, aesthetics is approached as a process-oriented form of relationship. The thesis centers on the question of“what dynamic processes shape the relationship between humans and the environment in an aesthetic context, and how SANART publications reveal these relationships within this scope,”along with many sub-questions. To this end, SANART (Aesthetic and Visual Culture Association) publications have been taken as a fundamental archive; through the discourses in these publications, the bodily, spatio-temporal, and social axes of aesthetic relationships between humans and the environment have been analyzed. The SANART Association and its publications have provided a strong institutional foundation with their interdisciplinary and intercultural structure. The main problem of this study is the misalignment between humans and their environment and the problematic relationship between humans and their environment on both intellectual and practical levels. In this context, the environment is considered a multi-scale concept that encompasses humans, nature, the universe, society, geography, and the built environment. In a world where boundaries are blurring, the boundaries of humans have also become problematic. In this context, humans are in a position where they both influence and are influenced by the environment. The theoretical basis of this study is the acceptance that aesthetics is an inclusive and process-oriented form of relationship. Process-oriented aesthetics expresses a plural and open-ended understanding of aesthetics that evolves with time, context, and relational situations. The theoretical basis has determined the theoretical and methodological framework. Contemporary interpretations of assemblage theory have shaped the theoretical framework of this study. Assemblage thinking is approached as the process- and network-based relationships of heterogeneous entities without reducing complexity. In this context, contemporary interpretations of assemblage thinking have been shaped through Elizabeth Grosz, Manuel DeLanda, and Brian Massumi. The thesis consists of six chapters. Following the introduction, the second chapter focuses on aesthetics, while the third chapter reveals ideas about relationships. The fourth chapter focuses on the SANART Association, and the fifth chapter analyzes the association's publications. The sixth chapter constitutes the conclusion of the thesis. The content of each chapter is structured around a narrative that progresses from the general to the specific. While maintaining their own internal structure, the sections gain meaning and transform in relation to the other sections they are connected to. In the second section, the historical and theoretical evaluation of aesthetics emphasised that it expanded its boundaries towards the critical field by becoming part of all kinds of events and disciplines. During a period when criticism was being questioned, aesthetics took on a new form of criticism. At the same time, it was stated that aesthetics was related to the social realm insofar as it was related to criticism. In line with contemporary aesthetic approaches, two main areas of experience have been identified: the social and the environmental. Social experience is evaluated in terms of the human body and society, while environmental experience is evaluated in terms of the human body and spatial interactions. These concepts and relationship-oriented approaches to aesthetics have directed the thesis towards relational approaches within a broader framework. In the third chapter, the choice of assemblage theory as the theoretical framework is informed by readings that begin with the foundations of the concept of relationship. This approach is based on Deleuze and Guattari's relational ontology and has been further developed through the work of Manuel DeLanda on social assemblages, the ideas of Elizabeth Grosz on bodily experience and gender, and the interpretations of Brian Massumi centred on process, affect and movement. These three authors were selected primarily because they incorporate spatial formations such as environment, city, and architecture into their ideas of interrelatedness with social thought from an interdisciplinary position. The concepts of the body, space and society from the second chapter are examined in depth within a process-oriented framework. Elizabeth Grosz's thoughts on the body and relatedness are examined, while Manuel DeLanda's ideas are used to explore society and relatedness. The space-time and relatedness section is shaped by the convergence of Grosz's and DeLanda's discourses. Massumi's discourse on process provides further detail to the sections. Assembly theory is considered not only a theoretical tool but also a fundamental methodological approach that determines the analytical direction and structure of the research. SANART is approached as a network-based structure in line with the interaction of internal and external processes. In this context, before moving on to the content of SANART publications (i.e., their smaller-scale components), it is important to examine the larger-scale assemblage of which they are a part. In the fourth chapter, the SANART association is examined within the scope of Manuel DeLanda's scale of organization. The establishment of SANART coincides with a period of critical inquiry. The SANART Association has many components in addition to its publications. These publications take shape as a result of the interaction between these components. Following the emergence of various forms of interaction, it has been argued that SANART shapes new forms of coming together in a fragmented world through aesthetics and relationships that transcend critical thinking. The fifth chapter analyzes the relationship between humans and the environment in the publications. Therefore, an analysis method focusing on movement-based concepts and their expression in the texts has been adopted in order to understand the relationship between humans and the environment. In the analysis process, SANART texts have been coded along three main axes: the bodily process axis, the spatiotemporal process axis, and the social process axis. The bodily process axis reveals subjective and sensory interactions; the spatiotemporal process axis reveals the physical and directional relationships of these interactions with the environmental context; and the social process axis reveals how these individual relationships are woven together at the collective and structural levels. The thesis method is based on qualitative content analysis and open coding. The coding process was structured in line with the theoretical axes, and the conceptual densities in the texts were analyzed through these axes. The codes were also supported by digital tools such as visualization and word analysis. The coded passages are examined not only in terms of their content but also in relation to the discursive and institutional contexts in which they were produced. Thus, the SANART texts, which are the objects of the research, are not merely analyzed data but are also evaluated as assemblages that reflect the processual nature of thought production. The bodily axis focuses on the sensory and perceptual interactions of the body with its environment. In the bodily process category of the analysis of SANART publications, perception, memory, habit, internalization, and ethical expressions emerged. The spatiotemporal axis encompasses the functional and experiential relationships that the body establishes with space. Through concepts such as movement, orientation, temporality, function, and aesthetic order, it has been argued that space is not fixed but a field of formation shaped by interaction. Within this scope, functionality and behavior, seeing, looking, watching, walking, wandering, encountering, chatting, and greeting relationships have emerged. The social axis, on the other hand, reveals how aesthetic experience is established within social and cultural contexts through concepts such as interpersonal relationships, collective memory, settlement, ownership, social action, solidarity, publicness, nomadic life, small markets, care, protection, and preservation. Through this theory, the relationship between humans and their environment has been analyzed in a non-reductionist, open-ended, and processual structure. The main findings of the thesis show that aesthetic experience is reproduced in the processes of bodily awareness, spatial orientation, and social interaction. Aesthetics is a relational, dynamic, and open-ended form of thought and action. In this context, SANART publications have not only presented academic or artistic content, but have also created a modest yet rich intellectual groundwork that exemplifies the potential areas of post-critical aesthetic thought. This study approaches aesthetics as a relationship that permeates every level of everyday life, is in a state of becoming and has multiple layers. In line with this approach, the concepts and themes that emerge in SANART publications are evaluated as powerful examples of this new positioning of aesthetics. Themes such as walking, encountering, settling, movement and belonging demonstrate that aesthetic experience is not only perceptual, but also bodily, social and spatially constructed. In conclusion, this thesis has demonstrated how aesthetic thought can be repositioned in the post-critical era by discussing the multidimensional structure of human–environment relations. This process-oriented, relational and assemblage-based approach seeks to redefine aesthetics as a form of thinking, sensing and acting, not merely as a field. The study aims to contribute to critical discourse by examining aesthetics in the context of human-environment relationships.
