Araştırmanın ilk bölümünde Sokrates'in yetiştiği dönem, yaşamı ve yöntemi ele alınmaktadır. Sokrates'in Savunması (Apologia), Lakhes, Theaitetos, Menon, Phaidon ve Kriton diyalogları temel alınarak bilgi, erdem, ruh, ahlak ve insan anlayışı incelenmiştir. Bu inceleme, Sokrates'in yaklaşımının muhatabına hazır bilgi sunan bir öğretim biçimi yerine, düşünme sürecine eşlik eden bir sorgulama tutumu içerdiğini ortaya koymaktadır. İkinci bölümde çocuklarla felsefe alanının kuramsal temelleri ele alınmış, alandaki çağdaş yaklaşımlar incelenmiştir. Üçüncü bölümde, çocuklarla felsefe Sokrates'in“Kendini Bil”sözü ekseninde ele alınmıştır.
This study takes Socrates' dictum“Know Thyself”as a philosophical foundation and examines the conceptual framework it offers within the context of philosophy with children. The study brings into discussion approaches that treat philosophy with children as a practice limited to pedagogical outcomes and developmental domains, and foregrounds its relationship with the ancient aims of philosophy. In the first chapter, Socrates' historical context, life, and method are examined. Drawing on Apology, Laches, Theaetetus, Meno, Phaedo, and Crito, the study analyzes Socrates' understanding of knowledge, virtue, soul, ethics, and the human being. This analysis indicates that Socrates' approach does not consist of a form of instruction that transmits ready-made knowledge to its interlocutors, but rather embodies an inquiry-oriented attitude that accompanies the process of thinking. In the second chapter, the theoretical foundations of philosophy with children are addressed and contemporary approaches in the field are examined. In the third chapter, philosophy with children is discussed within the framework of Socrates' principle of“Know Thyself.”It is argued that this principle may guide children in establishing a meaningful relationship with themselves and the world through inquiry. In this context, the study examines the orientation this principle offers to philosophy with children education and how it may be related to children's processes of questioning, meaning-making, and the development of self-awareness.The study suggests that the principle of“Know Thyself”represents, beyond a personal call, an educational and ethical field of responsibility within the context of philosophy with children. Through the connection established between ancient philosophical heritage and philosophy with children, philosophy with children is considered as a holistic educational approach that accompanies the human process of self-understanding and supports the possibility of becoming a moral subject.
