Özet

ÖZET Dillerin oluşumu hakkında bulunan birçok mit, dillerin çeşitliliğinin ne denli önemli olduğunu göstermekte ve tarih boyunca çevirinin var olduğu gerçeğini desteklemektedir. Çeviri ve çevirmen hakkında belirlenen ölçütler, çeviri eleştirisinin de temelini oluşturmaktadır. Farklı metinler için farklı çeviri yöntemleri bulunmakta, çevirmenin metin doğrultusunda seçim yapmasını gerektirmektedir. Günümüzde tercih edilen iki türlü yaklaşım vardır. Biri, kaynak metni ve yazarını gözeten kaynak odaklı çeviri, diğeri de amaç metni ve amaç dil dizgesini gözeten, erek odaklı çeviridir. Bu bağlamda öne çıkan kavramlar, çevirinin eşdeğerliği ve bu eşdeğerliğin' iki kutbu olan yeterlik ve kabul edilebilirliktir. Bu çalışmada, yazınsal bir metnin kaynak odaklı çeviri yöntemi doğrultusunda incelenmesi söz konusudur. Amaç metnin çevirmeni Burhan Arpad, kaynak odaklı bir çeviri yöntemi benimsediğinden, çalışmada kullanılacak olan ölçütler, bu yöntem için uygun görülmüş olan ölçütleridir. Kaynak odaklı çeviri yönteminin bir aşaması olması bakımından, kaynak metnin ve yazarının biçemi hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Amaç metin - kaynak metin karşılaştırması sonucunda ele aiinan örnekler uygulama bölümünde sunulmuş ve çevirmenin seçiminin hangi eşdeğerlik kutbuna yakın olduğu belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. örneklerin bulunduğu uygulama bölümünde ayrıntılı bir biçimde elde edilmiş olan veriler doğrultusunda sonuç bölümünde bir değerlendirmeye gidilmiş ve eşdeğerliğin kutbu belirlenmiştir.

ABSTRACT Many myths about the existence of languages indicate how essential the variety of languages is and supper the fact that translation has existed throughout history. The criteria determined about translation and a translator also form the basis of translation criticism. There are various translation methods for various texts and these necessitate a translator to make a decision according to the text typ. Today there are two kinds of approaches preferred by translators. The first one is based on the source text and the other one is based on the target text and the target language system. The concepts in this context are the equivalence of translation and the two aspects related to equivalence which are adequacy and acceptability. In this thesis the examination of a literary text in line with the source-oriented approach has been studied carefully. The criteria to be used in this thesis are the ones that have been considered to be applicable for the study, since Burhan Arpad, the translator of the target text, has applied to the source-oriented approach. Information about the style of the source text and writer has been submitted in the case-study and which equivalence pole the translator's norms adhere to has been determined. In the light of the information gathered from the case-study, a critical evaluation has been cared out at the last chapter and the equivalence poles have been determined. VI
