The study has been carried out in order to analyze the effect of reaching with concept maps in chemistry lessons and the effect of meaningfull learning theory to the scientific achievement and the manner towards the chemistry lesson. The study has been conducted on the two classes of 10 th. Grade students in Konya I loin. I loin High School and Ilgin Anatolian High School during the second semester of 2005-2006 education year. The students are choosen at random. While the students have been taught by meaningful learning theory and concept maps in experimental group, traditional method has been used at control group in the study. It has been conducted according to the model of pre-test and post-test control group scientific achievement has been prepared which measures the target behaviours of the practised unit and manner assesment developed before has been used. The same tests have been applied as the pre-test and post-test. In the experimental group the concept map method has been used at the beginning level to investigate and at the development level and measurement level, meaningful learning has been achieved by making the students establish a connection with the former subject at the beginning of each new subject. Students in both groups have been pretested and posttested for 4 weeks; then statistical operations such as arithmetic average, standard deviation and t-test have been applied to the data obtained by these tests. The statistical operations have been performed by Excel 7.0 and SPSS 9.0 computer programmes. The findings of the study are as the following: 1. When the results of scientific achievement final test are taken into consideration, the experimental group who has used concept map and meaningful learning method is more successful than the students in the control group. 2. The attaintment level of the students in experimental group is higher than those in control group. 3. While the manners of the students towards the chemistry lesson in experimental group is higher according to pretests, the manners of the students in the control group remained unchanged.
