It has been observed that bound to globalization and technological developments, companies make investments in mergers and acquisitions in order to grow. But, if we look at the past, mergers and acquisitions were not perfect tool of economic growth. The majority of mergers and acquisitions did not achieve the success. Interestingly, companies still choose these corporate alliance tools to gain economic growth today. There must be more beneficial motives than other growth tools with merges and acquisitions that companies even large corporations establishing new corporate alliances by choosing these methods. One of the motives behind these corporate alliances is globalization that drives companies become bigger and bigger. It is forecasted by top executives in the business environment that only bigger players could afford maintenance in the future. This objet has been recently addressed by Sergio Marchionne, the top executive of Fiat. Fiat is already a large manufacturer in the automotive industry. However, according to him Fiat needs to settle a corporate alliance to become larger manufacturer to sustain in the market for the future. Because of that Fiat proposed a takeover bid to the US based large automobile corporation General Motors' Europe division. This dissertation will therefore intend to search the identification of the motives behind mergers and acquisitions, necessary actions to succeed the corporate alliance and to analyse the possible merge between Fiat and GM Europe. In the research, secondary sources are used to reach two companies' information. It is discovered that SWOT analysis is employed first in a merge process. Therefore, in this study SWOT analysis is employed, as well. According to the results, there are significant differences between two manufacturers in terms of brand reputation, product quality and company scale. On the other hand, there are some fits and opportunities to share in terms of R&D actions, emerging markets and expanding the exist markets
