Özet
Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, okuma derslerinde video materyallerinin yabancı dil olarak İngilizce öğrenimi alan öğrencilerin okuduğunu anlama konusundaki kullanımını araştırmaktır. Ayrıca, bu çalışma, yabancı dil olarak İngilizce öğrenimi alan öğrencilerin okuduğunu anlamalarını geliştirmek için video materyallerini kullanma konusundaki algılarını bulmayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın katılımcıları, Türkiye'de özel bir üniversitede öğrenim gören 41 orta seviye EFL öğrencisidir. Bu öğrenciler deneysel ve kontrol grubunu oluşturan iki ayrı gruba ayrıldı. Deney grubundaki katılımcı sayısı 20 iken, kontrol grubundaki katılımcı sayısı 21 idi. Deney grubu derste video materyalleriyle bütünleştirilmiş okuma etkinliklerini alırken, kontrol grubu derslerine olağan akışıyla devam etti. Çalışmada üç farklı veri toplama aracı kullanılmıştır. Araçlar başarı testleri, tutanaklar ve yarı yapılandırılmış bir görüşmeydi. Çalışma boyunca hem nitel hem de nicel analiz yöntemleri uygulanmıştır. SPSS istatistikleri kullanılarak test öncesi ve sonrası bulgular incelenmiştir. Katılımcıların yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeleri ve tutanak sonuçları içerik analizi prosedürü kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Çalışmaya göre, yapılan ön test ve son test sonuçları video materyallerinin öğrencilerin okuduğunu anlama konusunda önemli katkılar sağladığı görülmüştür. Ayrıca, video ile ilgili etkinliklerin okuma derslerinde uygulanmasının öğrencilere okuma dersleri hakkında olumlu algılamalar sağladığını ortaya koymuştur.

The main aim of this study is to investigate the use of video materials in EFL learners' reading comprehension. Also, this study aims at finding out the perceptions of EFL learners about using video materials to improve their reading comprehension. The participants of this study were 41 pre-intermediate level EFL students who have been studying in a private university in Turkey. These students were divided into two separate groups, which formed the experimental and the control group. The number of participants in the experimental group was 20, the number of participants in the control group was 21. While the experimental group had video integrated reading activities in the lesson, the controlled group continued with the usual flow of their lessons. Three different data collection tools were used in the study. The tools were achievement tests, minute papers and a semi-structured interview. Throughout the study, both qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis were applied. With the help of using SPSS statistical package software, the pre- and post-test findings were examined. The results of the semi-structured interviews and minute papers of the participants were collected by using the procedure of content analysis. The results of the pre and post achievement tests revealed that video materials had a significant contribution to the reading comprehension of the students. Moreover, the results also presented that the implementation of video related activities to the reading lessons contributed to the students' positive perceptions about the reading lessons.
