Aim: The increase in breast cancer incidence worldwide and the increase in survival with today's advanced screening methods, new diagnostic methods and changes in treatment modalities; along with it, the chemotherapy used during the treatment has brought an increase in the detection of complications. Although the number of studies on the methods and drugs developed to prevent complications of frequently used chemotherapeutic agents such as paclitaxel is increasing, an effective method for the prevention of chemotherapy-related neuropathy has not been recommended in the current ASCO guidelines. However, the guidelines include methods including compression, such as acupuncture, cryotherapy, exercise therapy, ganglioside monosialic acid, which do not have any recommendations for use in the prevention of chemotherapy-related neuropathy. For this purpose, the effect of the compression method, which can be used to prevent neuropathy, which is one of the most common complications of paclitaxel, which is frequently used in the diagnosis of breast cancer, was investigated in our study. Method: For this thesis study, which was planned as a descriptive method study, approximately 80 patients who were planned to receive paclitaxel-containing chemotherapy regimen from the patients who applied to the Medical Oncology Clinic of Gazi University Medical Faculty Hospital between May-July 2023 were contacted. 67 clinically suitable patients were included in the study. During the chemotherapy process, one size smaller than normal size two latex surgical gloves were put on the hands of the patients on the sides that they use predominantly in daily life. Medium pressure (20-30 mmHg) below-the-knee compression stockings suitable for each patient's body were worn on the legs on the side that they use predominantly in daily life. The other hands and feet of the patients were determined as the control group. Patients who wore gloves and socks for 30 minutes prior to chemotherapy infusion continued to wear gloves and socks during and for 30 minutes after chemotherapy. Gloves and socks were removed 30 minutes after the end of chemotherapy. Evaluation was planned for each patient at the visit before the start of chemotherapy, at the sixth week after the start of chemotherapy, and at the twelfth week after the initiation of chemotherapy. During patient evaluations, side-effect profiles were questioned and the developing side-effects were recorded. Patients were evaluated by the physician with CTCAE 5.0 grading for quality of life and peripheral neuropathy symptoms. Patients were asked to complete the EORTC QLQ-C30 quality of life questionnaire and the EORTC QLQ-CIPN20 chemotherapy-related peripheral neuropathy symptoms questionnaire during each evaluation. Conclusion: The use of compression method in the prevention of chemotherapy-associated peripheral neuropathy in patients receiving paclitaxel chemotherapy did not prevent the development of neuropathy statistically. Patients with high scores from the EORTC QLQ-CIPN20 questionnaires used in the evaluation of chemotherapy-related complications of patients; The NCI-CTCAE 5.0 grading was determined to be classified as high grades in terms of peripheral sensory neuropathy and peripheral motor neuropathy. In this respect, the results are consistent with previous studies.
