Özet
145 ÖZET Bu çalışma Gazi Üniversitesi, Yabancı Diller Öğretimi Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi'nde İngilizce öğretmek için kullanılan ders kitaplarını tamamlamak için hazırlanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı Gazi Üniversitesi hazırlık sınıflarında kullanılan Headway serisinin ve New Success at First Certificate kitabının yazma becerisine yönelik eksik ve zayıf noktalarını gözden geçirmek ve bunları giderebilmek için ek alıştırmalar geliştirmektir. Bu çalışma 6 bölümden oluşmaktadır. Tezin I. bölümü tartışma konusu olan problemi sunmakta, çalışmanın kapsamını belirlemekte ve bu problemin varsayımlarını da içermektedir. II. bölümde konu ile ilgili kuramsal bilgiler taranmıştır. Bu bölüm yazma becerisi öğretiminin tarihçesi ve gelişimi üzerinde yoğunlaşmaktadır. III. bölümde Gazi Üniversitesi, Yabancı Diller öğretimi Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi'ndeki mevcut sistemin öğrenciler, öğretmenler, ders kitapları ve sınavlar bakımından bir incelemesi yapılmıştır. IV. bölüm veri toplamada kullanılan anketlerin uygulandığı öğretmenleri ve öğrencileri genel olarak tanımlamakta, bilgi toplama yöntemini özetlemekte, verileri incelemekte ve yorumlamaktadır. Bu tezin esas konusunu oluşturan V. bölüm bazı teorik bilgiler içermekte ve öğretmenlere ve öğrencilere uygulanan anket sonuçlarına bağlı olarak uygun ve tamamlayıcı yazma aktiviteleri sunmaktadır. 144 ABSTRACT This study is designed to supplement the coursebooks that are being used to teach English at the Foreign Language Teaching Practice and Research Centre, Gazi University. It aims to discover and supplement the deficiencies and weaknesses of the coursebooks (Headway series and New Success at First Certificate) in terms of their writing sections. The present study has 6 chapter. Chapter I of the study brings forth the problem to be discussed throughout the study. The scope of the study and the assumptions of the problem are also stated in Chapter I. In Chapter II, a review of the relevant literature in which traditional views are emphasized is stated and their contributions to recent studies are discussed. This chapter concentrates on displaying the historical background and the development of the teaching of the writing skills. In Chapter III, an analysis of the present system at the Foreign Language Teaching Practice and Research Centre, Gazi University is given in terms of students, instructors, coursebooks and exams. Furthermore, the treatment of writing skills in the present system is also discussed in this chapter. Chapter IV. deals with the analysis and the interpretation of data collected from teachers and students. This chapter gives a general picture of the subjects to whom the questionnaires have been administered and summarizes the data collection process. Chapter V, which is the core of the present study, covers some theoretical information and suggests relevant supplementary writing activities [which are based on the findings of the questionnaires given to students and teachers] Chapter IV is the conclusion part which also summarizes the research carried out in this study.
