Özet
Yaşanan iklim krizleri bağlamında ele alındığında çeviri, dilsel bir aktarımın ötesine geçerek bilinçlendirme ve arabuluculuk özelliği ile ön plana çıkmaya başlamıştır. Yapılan bu tez çalışmasında, ekolojik aktörlerin çeviri aracılığıyla dönüşümünün belirlenmesi amacıyla, Bruno Latour'un Fransızca kaleme aldığı çevre temalı, aynı zamanda politik, felsefi ve sosyolojik niteliğe sahip Face à Gaïa (2015) adlı eseri ile Catherine Porter tarafından yapılan İngilizce çevirisi Facing Gaia (2017)'nın karşılaştırmalı olarak incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu çalışma kapsamında örneklemler, kaynak metinde yer alan ekolojik ifadeler arasından belirlenen kuramlar çerçevesinde temsil edilebilme durumlarına göre seçilmiştir. Seçilen örneklemler, Bruno Latour'un Aktör Ağ Teorisi, Michael Cronin'in eko-çeviri kuramı ve Gengshen Hu ile Youlan Tao'nun eko-çeviribilim kuramı bağlamında ele alınmıştır. Aktör Ağ Kuramı çerçevesinde kaynak metindeki çevresel aktörler ve ağlar belirlenmiş ve bu unsurların erek metindeki konumları ile dönüşümleri incelenmiştir. Eko-çeviri kuramı; ekosentrik (çevre merkezci) ve antroposentrik (insan merkezci) bağlamda çevirmen seçimleri ile çevirmenin ekolojik sorumluluğunun belirlenmesine olanak sağlamıştır. Eko-çeviribilim kuramı ise çeviri ve çevirmen temelindeki kaynak/erek kültür ekosistemlerinin incelenmesine katkı sunmuştur. Bu kapsamda çevirmenin kaynak ve erek kültürlere adaptasyonu, metinlerarası denge sağlama düzeyi ve yaptığı seçimler ekosistemler bağlamında yorumlanmıştır. Yapılan incelemeler sonucunda, çevirmenin yapmış olduğu seçimlerde, aktörlerin özelliklerini değiştirebildiği ve kaynak metinden bu yönüyle ayrıştığı görülmüştür. Ekosentrik bağlamda bu durum çevirmenin çevresel aktörlerin ön planda tuttuğunu gösterse de, antroposentrik bağlamda çevrenin algılanış biçimini olumsuz anlamda etkileyebileceği söylenebilir. Çevre ve çevirinin ortak paydada buluşturulduğu bu tez çalışması sayesinde, literatüre çevre bilinci konusunda katkı sağlanabileceği ve ileride yapılacak olan çalışmalar ve çeviriler için yeni ve kapsamlı bir bakış açısı sunulduğu düşünülmektedir.

Translation, when considered in the context of climate crises, has begun to stand out with its awareness-raising and mediation features, going beyond a linguistic transfer. Therefore, this thesis aims to examine Bruno Latour's French-language work Face à Gaïa (2015), which has an environmental theme and political, philosophical, and sociological qualities, and Catherine Porter's English translation Facing Gaia (2017) comparatively to determine the transformation of ecological actors through translation. Within the scope of this study, samples were selected based on their representability within the frameworks of theories identified among the ecological expressions in the source text. The selected samples were analyzed in the context of Bruno Latour's Actor-Network Theory, Michael Cronin's eco-translation theory, and Gengshen Hu and Youlan Tao's eco-translatology theory. Within the framework of Actor-Network Theory, the environmental actors and networks in the source text were identified, and the positions and transformations of these elements in the target text were examined. Eco-translation theory enabled the determination of the translator's ecological responsibility in the context of ecocentric (environment-centered) and anthropocentric (human-centered) choices. The theory of eco-translatology on the other hand contributed to the analysis of source/target culture ecosystems based on translation and the translator. In this context, the translator's adaptation to the source and target cultures, the level of intertextual balance achieved, and the choices made were interpreted within the context of ecosystems. The results of the studies show that the choices made by the translator can change the characteristics of the actors and distinguish the target text from the source text in this respect. While this situation shows that the translator prioritizes environmental actors in an ecocentric context, it can be said that it may negatively affect the perception of the environment in an anthropocentric context. It is believed that this thesis, which brings together the environment and translation, contributes to the literature on environmental awareness and offers a new and comprehensive perspective for future studies and translations.
